Inbound: the customer calls

Burning smells and warm panels sent to on-call

A hot outlet at 11 at night is the call you most want answered right. Emma asks about smoke first, tells the caller to call 911 if there's any, and puts your on-call electrician on the line.

When it starts

A burning smell, sparking, a hot or discoloured outlet, or a buzzing panel.

What the agent does

Asks your safety questions, gives 911 wording for smoke, warm-transfers to on-call.

What your team gets

An on-call electrician who knows what they're walking into.

How it works

  1. Smoke first

Any smoke or flame, and she tells them to get out and call 911 now, in your words, before anything else.

  2. Where and what

Which outlet or switch, is it hot to the touch, discoloured, crackling, does the smell come and go.

  3. What's plugged in

A space heater, a power bar, an old freezer. It helps the electrician, and your wording may tell them to unplug it only if it's safe to.

  4. Stay away

Don't touch the outlet, don't open the panel. If you approve it, she tells them which breaker to switch off.

  5. Puts on-call through

A warm transfer with a private summary, or the backup on-call if the first doesn't answer.

  6. Follows up in the morning

The office sees the call first thing, and the repair visit is booked if the on-call tech didn't finish it.

Example call

  1. CustomerThere's a burning smell coming from an outlet in the bedroom.
  2. AI agentIs there any smoke, or is the outlet or the wall around it hot?
  3. CustomerNo smoke. The cover feels warm and it's a bit brown.
  4. AI agentThank you. Please don't touch it again. If you see any smoke, leave the house and call 911. Is anything plugged into it?
  5. CustomerA space heater. I just unplugged it.
  6. AI agentGood. I'm putting you through to Kyle, our electrician on call, now.
  7. AI agent(privately, to Kyle) Bedroom outlet in Orillia, warm and browned cover, burning smell, space heater was plugged in and is now unplugged, no smoke. Connecting now.

After the call: Kyle takes the call knowing about the space heater and the browned cover, has the homeowner switch off that circuit, and books a morning visit. The office sees the recording and summary first thing.

What your team gets

  • 911 wording first on every smoke or flame call
  • Warm transfers to on-call with a private summary
  • Backup on-call tried if the first doesn't answer
  • Morning visits booked from the overnight calls
  • Recordings of every after-hours safety call
Set up with you: The team writes your safety wording with your master electrician, sets the on-call rotation and backups, sets up a connection to your dispatch board for night jobs and morning visits, and tests the transfer to each phone.

Questions

Will she tell people to flip a breaker?

Only with the exact wording you approve. Some shops have her say which breaker, others leave it to the on-call electrician.

What if there's smoke?

She tells them to leave and call 911 right away, then alerts your on-call electrician.

Does every warm outlet go to on-call?

Your rules decide. A burning smell or sparking usually does. A dead outlet with no smell is booked for business hours.
