Shipper pickups booked with the BOL details
A pickup request at 4:50 on a Friday lands on Monday's board with everything a driver needs. The shipper hangs up with a pickup number, not a promise of a callback.
A shipper calls to book a pickup, change one or add a shipment to one already booked.
Takes the freight and dock details, books the pickup window, issues the BOL number.
A pickup on the dispatch board and a confirmation in the shipper's inbox.
How it works
- Finds the shipper
By account, phone number or the pickup address on file. Regulars don't repeat their address or dock hours.
- Takes the shipment
Skids or pieces, weight, dimensions, PO and reference numbers, and any dangerous goods class the shipper declares.
- Checks the dock
Shipping hours, the cut-off for same-day pickup, whether the driver needs a liftgate at the shipper's end, and who to ask for at the door.
- Books the window
It sees which pickup windows the local driver's route still has room for and offers two. Same-day requests past the cut-off are offered the next morning.
- Sends the paperwork
The BOL number and pickup confirmation go by email, with the BOL ready to print and stick on the skids.
- Handles the changes
Two more skids, a later window, a cancelled pickup. Changes go on the order and dispatch sees them before the driver rolls.
Example call
- CustomerHi, Lucie from Vallée Foods in Saint-Laurent. I need a pickup tomorrow, six skids for our Ottawa customer.
- AI agentMorning, Lucie. Same dock on Rue Hickmore, shipping until 3? And roughly what do the six weigh?
- CustomerSame dock. About 3,100 kilos. And it's dry goods, nothing refrigerated.
- AI agentThanks. Do you have a PO for the Ottawa order?
- CustomerPO 77-5520.
- AI agentI have a driver on your street between 10 and noon or between 1 and 3. Which suits the dock?
- Customer1 to 3.
- AI agentDone. Pickup tomorrow between 1 and 3, six skids, PO 77-5520. I'm emailing you BOL 6630184 now so it's on the skids when he arrives.
After the call: The pickup is on tomorrow's Montreal board with six skids, 3,100 kilos and the PO. Lucie has the BOL by email, and the Ottawa delivery is set up to follow the pickup scan.

Questions
Can it book a same-day pickup?
Yes, before the cut-off you set and when the route has room. After that, it offers the first window next morning.
What about dangerous goods?
It asks the shipper to declare the class and UN number, notes it on the order and flags it to dispatch so the right driver and paperwork go.
Can shippers add to a pickup already booked?
Yes. It finds the pickup, updates the skids and weight, and dispatch sees the change.
Does it print the BOL?
It emails a ready-to-print BOL with the number, and the shipper prints it at their dock.
