Broker load offers taken while dispatch is busy
A broker with a Winnipeg to Calgary reefer load calls three carriers and gives it to the first who answers. Now that's you, even when both dispatchers are on with drivers.
A broker or shipper calls with a load, or asks for a rate on a lane.
Takes the load, checks open trucks and standing rates, covers it or hands it to dispatch with a deadline.
A covered load with a rate con, or a complete offer on the dispatcher's phone.
How it works
- Takes the lane
Pickup and delivery cities, the actual shipper and receiver addresses, and the appointment times at each end.
- Gets the equipment right
Dry van, reefer, flatbed or step deck, 53 foot or a straight truck, temperature for a reefer, tarps and straps for a flatbed.
- Checks the freight
Commodity, weight, piece count and whether it's a live load or a drop. Overweight or high-value loads are flagged.
- Looks at the board
It sees which trucks are empty near the pickup on that day and which lanes have a standing rate with that broker.
- Covers it or passes it on
A standing lane with an open truck is accepted at your rate and the rate confirmation requested. Anything else goes to dispatch with the broker's deadline at the top.
- Closes the loop
If dispatch says no, the broker gets a call or email back before their deadline, so your name stays on their list.
Example call
- CustomerHi, Prairie Link Logistics. I've got a reefer out of Portage la Prairie Thursday, delivering Calgary Friday. You have a truck?
- AI agentLet me check. What's the commodity, weight and temperature?
- CustomerFrozen fries, 20,000 kilos, minus 18. Pickup's 6 a.m., delivery Friday at 2 p.m.
- AI agentWe have a reefer emptying in Winnipeg Wednesday night, so Thursday at 6 works. Your standing rate on Portage to Calgary is 3,450 dollars all in. Want to book it?
- CustomerYeah, book it. I'll send the rate con.
- AI agentBooked. Please send it to dispatch at the email on file, and I'll text you unit 214 and the driver's name tonight.
After the call: The load is on unit 214 for Thursday with the pickup and delivery appointments and minus 18 on the order. Gord in dispatch has a text, and the rate con is matched to the load when it arrives.

Questions
Will it agree to any rate a broker offers?
No. It accepts only standing rates you've set for that broker and lane. Everything else goes to dispatch to price.
Can it take cross-border loads?
Yes. It asks for the customs broker, the crossing, and whether it's PARS or PAPS, and notes which drivers on your board carry a FAST card.
What if no truck is open?
It says so honestly, offers the next day you have an empty near the pickup, and passes the offer to dispatch in case they can make it work.
