Aftercare check-ins a month after the service
Weeks after the service, when the casseroles stop, the family gets a gentle call from you. They hear about the grief group, set a time to collect the urn, and know you're still there.
A set time after the service, usually 30 days, for each family whose case is closed.
Asks how they're doing, shares your aftercare support, books what's left to finish.
A note on each family, any loose ends booked, and anyone struggling flagged to the director.
How it works
- Waits the right time
Thirty days after the service, or whatever your aftercare lead chooses, and never on the person's birthday or a holiday.
- Calls gently
From the funeral home, in the director's name: "Ian asked me to check in and see how you're all doing."
- Shares your support
The next grief group at the home, the winter memorial service, the books you lend. Only what you offer.
- Finishes the loose ends
Collecting cremated remains, extra memorial cards, the monument or marker, the interment in spring.
- Books what's needed
A pickup time, a meeting with the monument partner, the spring interment date at the cemetery.
- Flags who's struggling
Someone who sounds alone or very low is gently given your support line and flagged to the director to call.
Example call
- AI agentHi, is this Mrs. Sauvé? It's Emma calling from Lakeside Funeral Home. Michelle asked me to check in and see how you're doing.
- CustomerOh, that's kind. Some days are better than others.
- AI agentThat's very normal. We have a grief support evening on the second Tuesday of each month here at the home, if that would ever help. It's small, and you're welcome to just listen.
- CustomerMaybe. I'll think about it. I still need to pick up Marcel's ashes, actually.
- AI agentOf course. Michelle can have them ready for you. Would Wednesday or Friday afternoon be easier?
- CustomerFriday. Around 2.
- AI agentFriday at 2. Michelle will meet you herself. I'll text you the grief evening dates too, no pressure at all.
After the call: Michelle has Friday at 2 for Mrs. Sauvé to collect the urn, the grief support dates went by text, and the aftercare note says she might come to a session, for Michelle to mention in person.

Questions
Isn't an aftercare call best from a person?
The director stays the face of it. The agent calls in their name, books what's left, and tells the director anything the family wants to say to them personally.
What if they don't want the call?
It thanks them warmly, says the home is always there, and marks them so they aren't called again.
Does it try to sell pre-planning?
No. Pre-planning is never raised on an aftercare call. If the family asks, it books a meeting.
