Inbound: the customer calls

Downed lines and gas smells sent to the control room

A wire down across a school road is the one call that can't sit in a queue. She reads your safety script, keeps the caller back, and puts them through to the control room in seconds.

When it starts

A caller reports a line down, a pole on fire, a sparking transformer, a gas smell or a hit meter.

What the agent does

Reads your safety script, gets the exact location, warm-transfers to the control room operator.

What your team gets

An operator who picks up already knowing where and what, and a backup alert if nobody answers.

How it works

  1. Hears the hazard

"There's a line down", "I smell gas", "the pole's on fire". Spotted mid-call, even when the caller started with a bill question.

  2. Reads your safety script

Stay at least ten metres back, keep others and pets away, leave the house and don't use switches for gas. Your words, every time.

  3. Pins the location

Road, nearest civic number or intersection, which side, and what's nearby, like the school or the bridge.

  4. Briefs the operator

The control room operator hears what and where in one line before the caller joins.

  5. Puts them through

A warm transfer to the operator on duty. If the line is busy, she tries the backup number you set.

  6. Never leaves it hanging

If nobody answers, the report goes by text and call to the on-call supervisor, and the caller is told what happens next.

Example call

  1. CustomerThere's a power line down across Mill Street, right by the public school.
  2. AI agentThank you for calling. Please stay well back, at least ten metres, and keep anyone else away from it. Is anyone near the wire right now?
  3. CustomerNo, the crossing guard is keeping the kids back.
  4. AI agentGood. Which end of Mill Street, and is it touching anything, like a fence or a car?
  5. CustomerThe north end, by the crosswalk. It's lying on the road.
  6. AI agentI'm connecting you to our control room now. Please stay on the line.
  7. AI agent(privately, to the control room) Line down across the north end of Mill Street at the school crosswalk, on the road, crossing guard holding kids back. Connecting.

After the call: The operator picks up knowing the location and that children are nearby, sends a crew, and the report is logged with the time and the caller's number in case the crew needs them.

What your team gets

  • Hazard calls transferred to the control room in seconds
  • A one-line brief before every transfer
  • Your approved safety script read the same way every time
  • A backup alert to the on-call supervisor if the line is busy
  • A hazard log with times, locations and outcomes
Set up with you: The team loads your approved safety script, sets up a connection to your control room phones, on-call rotation and outage management system, and tests the transfer and backup path with your operators before it goes live.

Questions

What if the caller doesn't say it's an emergency?

She listens for it on every call. A member who mentions a sparking wire while asking about a bill is moved to the safety script at once.

Does she tell people to call 911?

When there's a fire or someone is hurt or in danger, yes, along with whatever else your script says.

What if the control room is busy?

She tries the backup numbers you set, then alerts the on-call supervisor by call and text with the full report.
