Breakdowns and reefer alarms put through to dispatch
A driver with a reefer that won't hold at 3 a.m. near Kenora reaches the dispatcher on shift in under a minute, and the dispatcher already knows the unit, the trailer and the load temperature.
A driver calls with a breakdown, accident, reefer alarm, refused load or a road closure.
Gets the unit, trailer, location and what happened, then warm-transfers to dispatch.
The dispatcher on the line with the facts, and the event logged on the unit.
How it works
- Checks everyone is safe
First question is whether anyone is hurt. If someone is, the driver is told to call 911 first.
- Gets the unit and trailer
From the driver's phone number it knows the driver and their truck, and confirms the trailer and load they're on.
- Pins the location
It reads the last ELD position back and confirms it: highway, closest kilometre marker or exit, and which direction they're facing.
- Learns the problem
What's wrong, warning lights, whether the truck can move, and for a reefer the set point and what the unit is reading.
- Puts dispatch on
A warm transfer to the dispatcher on shift with a short private summary. If they don't answer in time, the on-call phone rings next.
- Logs it
The event, time and location go on the unit and the load, so maintenance and the broker update start from the same facts.
