Property tax and water bill questions by roll number
The week interim tax bills land, the treasury desk can't keep up. The agent finds each property by roll number or address, reads the balance and due dates, and helps residents pay on time.
A resident calls about their tax bill, water bill, a payment or a change of ownership.
Finds the roll number, confirms the owner, reads balances and instalment dates, explains how to pay.
Fewer calls at the treasury desk, and a note for every request a tax clerk needs to act on.
How it works
- Finds the property
By roll number, address or water account number. It confirms the owner's name on the roll before giving any amount.
- Reads what's due
This year's interim and final instalments, what's been paid, and the next due date. Water bills by billing period and reading.
- Explains the bill
Why the interim is half of last year's taxes, what the water and sewer charges are, and the penalty date as your treasurer set it.
- Helps them pay
Online banking with the roll number as the account, the drop box at the office, or pre-authorized payments. It emails the PAP form on the call.
- Handles new owners
Bought the house in March? It explains the adjustment at closing and notes the new mailing address for the tax clerk.
- Passes the hard ones
Assessment appeals, a payment applied to the wrong roll, or a high water reading that needs a meter check go to treasury with the details.
Example call
- CustomerHi, I just got my tax bill and I'm not sure when it's due. We bought the house last spring.
- AI agentWelcome to Cedar Ridge. Can I have the address or the roll number from the top of the bill?
- Customer112 Mill Street.
- AI agentThanks. I have it under Daniel and Sofia Reyes. This is your interim bill, 1,904 dollars, split into two instalments: 952 on February 28th and 952 on April 30th.
- CustomerCan we just have it come out of our account?
- AI agentYes. Monthly or on each due date. I'll email you the pre-authorized payment form now, and once it's back, the payments start the month after.
- CustomerMonthly would be easier.
- AI agentI've noted monthly. The form's in your inbox. Just send it back with a void cheque and the tax office will set it up.
After the call: The PAP form went to the Reyes' email during the call, the treasury clerk has a note to expect it with "monthly" chosen, and the call is logged on roll number 112 Mill Street.

Questions
How does it know the caller is the owner?
It matches the name on the roll and the address or roll number. Anyone who isn't on the roll is told the amounts can go to the owner by mail or email.
Can it take a tax payment?
It explains each way to pay and emails the pre-authorized payment form. Payments themselves go through your bank and office as they do today.
What about a water bill that seems too high?
It reads the two meter readings on the bill, asks about leaks or a running toilet, and sends a meter check request to public works if the resident wants one.
