Inbound: the customer calls

"Any pink hydrangeas left?" answered during the May rush

On May long weekend the parking lot is full and the phone never stops. Every caller hears whether the pink hydrangeas are in, in which pot size, before they drive over.

When it starts

A caller asks if you have a plant, a variety or a size, or when it's safe to plant.

What the agent does

Checks stock by variety and pot size, gives approved care basics and your local frost date, sets holds.

What your team gets

Staff on the floor with customers, not on the phone answering "do you have..."

How it works

  1. Pins down the plant

"Pink hydrangea" could be four varieties. It asks the colour, the size they want and whether it's for sun or shade.

  2. Checks what's in

By variety and pot size, from the counts at the till, with the price from your list. A 2-gallon and a 5-gallon are not the same answer.

  3. Says when more is coming

If it's sold out, the next delivery from the grower, and similar varieties in stock now.

  4. Gives the basics

The answers your nursery approves: the frost date for your area, when to plant tomatoes, how to harden off annuals.

  5. Sets a hold

Puts the plant aside under their name until a time you allow, and tells the floor.

  6. Passes plant problems

Anything that sounds like a pest, disease or a dying plant goes to the nursery staff.

Questions

How much plant advice does it give?

Only what you approve: watering, planting times, sun and shade. Problems go to your staff.

It holds it in your system and tells the floor, for the time you allow.

Can it handle the long weekend rush?

Yes. It answers many calls at once, so the line at the register doesn't wait.
