Inbound: the customer calls

Medication questions put straight through to the pharmacist

"Can I take Advil with this?" is a pharmacist's question, every time. The agent hears it, puts the caller through with a short summary, and takes care of the rest of the call itself.

When it starts

A caller asks about interactions, side effects, a missed dose, or a pill that looks different.

What the agent does

Warm-transfers to the pharmacist with a summary, or takes an urgent message when they're with a patient.

What your team gets

The pharmacist answers clinical questions with the drug and the question already in front of them.

How it works

  1. Hears the clinical question

Interactions, side effects, a missed dose, a new pill shape or colour, a reaction. Even when it comes after a refill request.

  2. Doesn't guess

It never answers, reassures or explains what a pill is. It says the pharmacist will help.

  3. Pulls up the drug

From the patient's profile, it notes which medication they mean, so the pharmacist sees it right away.

  4. Puts them through

A warm transfer with a private summary. When the pharmacist is counselling someone, an urgent callback message instead, with a time.

  5. Emergencies get 911

A caller describing trouble breathing, swelling or an overdose is told to call 911 now, and the pharmacist is alerted.

  6. Finishes the rest

The refill, the delivery or the hours question is still taken care of.

Example call

  1. CustomerHi, I picked up my levothyroxine yesterday and the pills are a different colour than usual. Is that okay?
  2. AI agentThat's a good question for the pharmacist, and I don't want to guess. Can I have your name and date of birth so she has your profile ready?
  3. CustomerMargaret O'Neill, June 2nd, 1949.
  4. AI agentThank you, Mrs. O'Neill. Amira is at the dispensary now. I'll put you through and let her know what it's about. One moment.
  5. AI agent(privately, to Amira) Margaret O'Neill, levothyroxine picked up yesterday, pills a different colour than usual. Connecting.
  6. CustomerThank you.

After the call: Amira takes the call with the profile open, checks the fill and explains the manufacturer changed. The call summary and her note are on Mrs. O'Neill's file.

What your team gets

  • Every clinical question routed to the pharmacist, never answered by the agent
  • The drug and the question in a summary before the transfer
  • Urgent callback messages when the pharmacist is busy
  • Emergencies told to call 911 and the pharmacist alerted
Set up with you: The team sets up a connection to your dispensary system so the agent can pull up the patient's medication list, and writes with your pharmacists which questions go to them and when to take a callback message.

Questions

Will it ever answer a drug question?

No. Interactions, side effects, dosing and anything about how a medication looks go to the pharmacist.

What if the pharmacist is with a patient?

It takes an urgent callback message with the drug and the question, and tells the caller when to expect the call.

What about an emergency?

Trouble breathing, swelling or an overdose is told to call 911 right away, and the pharmacist is alerted.
