Lockouts and hydro outages sent to the caretaker
It's 9 at night on the second day and the power is out at the chalet. Emma checks whether the whole road is out, walks the guest to the breaker panel, and puts them through to the caretaker when that doesn't fix it.
A guest calls mid-stay: locked out, no power, no water, a backed-up toilet, a wasp nest.
Finds the cottage, walks through your first checks, warm-transfers urgent ones, logs the rest.
The caretaker briefed before they answer, and small problems waiting for the morning.
How it works
- Finds the stay
By phone number or name, with the cottage, the booking and anything noted on it.
- Walks through your checks
Your own steps for that cottage: the breaker panel in the back hall, the pump switch, the spare key spot, the right driveway.
- Checks for a bigger outage
If the guest says the neighbours are dark too, it checks the hydro outage map and gives the restore time.
- Puts the caretaker on
A lockout at dusk, no water, a sewage backup: warm-transferred with a short summary first.
- Covers out-of-range
If the caretaker doesn't pick up, the backup person gets the call and both get a text and email with the problem.
- Logs the small stuff
A dripping tap, slow Wi-Fi, a broken lawn chair go on the property's list for the next turnover.
Example call
- CustomerHi, we're at Cedar Chalet and the power just went out.
- AI agentLet's figure it out. Are the neighbours across the bay dark too?
- CustomerNo, I can see their lights.
- AI agentSo it's likely the cottage. The breaker panel is in the back hall closet, beside the hot water tank. Is the main switch at the top flipped?
- CustomerIt's in the middle. I flipped it, but nothing happened.
- AI agentThanks for trying. I'll put you through to Dave, the caretaker, and tell him what you've done. If you need light now, there are flashlights in the kitchen drawer by the stove.
- AI agent(privately, to Dave) Cedar Chalet, Lindqvist family, power out at 9 p.m., neighbours fine, main breaker reset, still dark.
After the call: Dave takes the call knowing what's been tried, drives over, and finds a tripped GFCI on the pump line. The call and the fix are logged on the chalet's maintenance list.

Questions
What counts as urgent?
You decide. Most owners say lockouts, no power, no water, sewage, and anything that makes the cottage unsafe or unusable. Everything else waits for the morning.
What about a fire or someone hurt?
It tells the guest to call 911 right away, and alerts the caretaker and you at the same time.
Can guests send photos?
Yes. They can text a photo to your number, and it's kept with the call for the caretaker.
